The Oyster Festival Kicks Off September 6th

The last festival in Norwalk
Oyster Festival

The annual battle between weather and the Seaport Association is on the weekend after the labor day weekend. This year that means September 6th through the 8th. Long time Norwalkers often refer to the Seaport Association’s community event as the mud bowl. And it is unfortunate that at least one of the days of the festival in recent memory have been at the mercy of the solid rain fall that turns Vet’s Park into, well, a muddy field. So while the sun is shining get out there enjoy this year’s event, the 46th year the Oyster Festival

The Entertainment

Despite Norwalk being a home to a somewhat more interesting demographic than the endless parade of cover bands of oldies, the music on offer is underwhelming. This year Southside Johnny and The Asbury Jukes kicks off Friday night. Mike Delguidice anchors Saturday with his Billy Joel repertoire, and then for reasons somewhat baffling, a Taylor Swift cover band named Let’s Sing Taylor. With Stamford, Westport and Bridgeport hosting outdoor music with the actual musicians and singer songwriters that write and perform their music, it is eternally disappointing that Norwalk can’t seem to get its act together.

The Seaport’s answer to entertainment also includes an Extreme Pogo act and ESPN’s Ready Go Dog Show. And whatever is touring the Northeast as ticketed rides. Vendor booths include crafts and food.

The mission of the Seaport is admirable, they use the festival proceeds to raise money to preserve the Sheffield Island Lighthouse.
