One of the most active arts organizations in Norwalk, the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), operates a well-trafficked gallery in the heart of the Rowayton’s Village District on Rowayton Ave. Housed in the original building for the volunteer fire department, RAC began as a series of art classes by local businessmen. Now the organization represents regional artists who show their works during the many exhibits offered. The workshops continue.

Living in Rowayton

Originally a fishing hamlet and oyster harvesting community, Rowayton’s history dates back to the 17th century. The village grew around the Five Mile River, which still serves as its picturesque centerpiece. Historic captain’s homes and converted fishing cottages dot the landscape, telling the story of the community’s seafaring past while providing distinctive housing options for today’s residents.
