Harvesting succulent lobster from the Long Island Sound is but a faded memory. The coastal harbors of Connecticut used to be home to the vibrant industry of the local lobster industry, hauling up traps and celebrating the days catch at the local bars, who invariably had the freshest best lobster rolls on offer. These days, the lobsters come by truck from Maine, unless you are lucky enough to be in the south east corner of Connecticut where lobsters can still be caught offshore in the deeper Atlantic waters.

In Norwalk, there are many restaurants that will put a lobster roll on the menu. Hot or cold. Sit down dining with white table cloths, or grab and go hunched over a picnic table. The restaurant fanciness contributing to the price range more than anything else. So picking the best Lobster Roll in a town which offers every style wasn’t easy.

There are fan favorites, like Rowayton Market and Knott Norms. There is the longtime stalwart in SoNo Seafood. And then there’s the seasonal lobster shack vibe of Rypka’s at Calf Pasture Beach. Nothing says summer better than dodging seagulls who are eager to swoop in on your fries as you dig into a buttery lobster roll and at a price that doesn’t break the bank.

These establishments offer a variety of lobster roll styles to suit different preferences but keep in mind that the lobster roll is a seasonal thing.
